Skill development and refinement

Coaching Objectives

  • Basic movement Literacy – balance, gliding, kicking, agility and breathing
  • Control of large muscle groups (gross movement), Improve fine motor control
  • Build technique and improvement of 4 strokes
  • Repetition of skills
  • Starts turns
  • Increase stamina
  • Basic rules of swimming
  • Use of equipment
  • Awareness of pace clock

Sessions available – 4 x 1 hour sessions (winter) 3x 1 hour sessions + 1 x 1.5 hour session (summer)




  • Swim 2-3 strokes competently and repeatedly over 25 metres
  • Dive start
  • Correct breathing technique for strokes
  • Do a mixture of drills and kick
  • follow instructions given by the coach

Final decision is at the discretion of the coaches.

You should be entering competitions suitable depending on ability.
